How much difference can a year, a new label and a new line-up make? Well, apparently a lot! Trivium recruited a new bass player and an extra guitarist, signed with Roadrunner and with Ascendancy they deliver another great album, just a year after their amazing debut From Ember To Inferno. The foundation of their sound is still made out of heavy Bay Area thrash metal, with a Gothenburg riff every now and then. This solid base is expanded with modern melodic influences and different vocal styles. The perfect production makes sure that the songs sound extra hard, because the raging guitars and pounding drums are storming out of your speakers like a hurricane. Okay, Dying In Your Arms is clearly the slick MTV-friendly single, but the rest of Ascendancy consists of top-notch metal. So be sure to check this out if you like some great modern thrash metal.
