The Deserts Of Traun is the brainchild of one Dave Murray (ex-Estradasphere) and it is an absolutely invigorating listen. 'The Lilac Moon' is a brain-tingling musical adventure allying the use of jazz, funk, classical, black/death metal, rock, fusion, world, video game, ambient and electronic music to sonically describe settings, character personalities, and events to an original science fiction comic book epic. The music is reflectively dynamic and complex, sad and glad, frightening and courageous. The Deserts Of Traun is storytelling through the medium of modern progressive music. Comes in a thin cardboard jacket. Who cares about the minimal packaging? The 56 minutes within is worth every single penny, and then some. If you're still not sold, Dave Murray lists these sources of inspiration on his website: Spinal Tap, Meshuggah, The Mats/Morgan Band, Santa Cruz redwoods, The Lord of The Rings, Dimmu Borgir, Chuck Schuldiner, Tron, The Dark Crystal, Steve Gadd, Sean Reinert, the Tao Te Ching, Phillip Glass, Gandhi, Iron Maiden, Secret Chiefs 3, Basil Poladorius, and Einstein "imagination......"
