JEM COHEN - Evening's Civil Twilight In Empires Of Tin (DVD)
The performance of Empires Of Tin was recorded by the Viennale. Live video footage of the event was then combined with Cohen's original 16mm and DV footage and edited in Vienna by Jem. The audio was mixed at the Hotel2tango in Montreal with several of the participating musicians. The live music includes renditions of a number of Vic Chesnutt songs, improvisations by various players, an extended sound piece by The Quavers, a revisited Black Ox Orkestar arrangement by Jessica Moss and Thierry Amar of Silver Mt. Zion, and blown-out interpretations of Strauss' "The Radetzky March" by the whole group of players. The result is a fascinating, politically charged and unique hybrid of concert and film.
